There Are Only Two Undefeated NFL Teams Left, and One Is a Big Surprise
The NFL’s perfect records have quickly thinned, and only two teams remain unbeaten after Week 4: the Buffalo Bills and the Philadelphia Eagles. Both are 4-0, but they’ve taken very different paths to get there. While Buffalo’s start was widely expected due to being led by Josh Allen and a high-powered offense, Philadelphia’s ability to stay in the game despite its uneven offense has been the real surprise.
The next stretch will reveal how long their streaks last.

The Buffalo Bills have been piling up points, averaging 33.3 per game, the highest mark in the league. Josh Allen leads an offense that currently ranks second in total yards and first in rushing yards per game. On defense, the Bills have limited opponents to about 290 yards per game while giving up an average of 22.5 points. They also hold a +3 turnover margin, which indicates that they’ve protected the ball well and forced mistakes from their opponents.
Having said that, their schedule raises questions. Three of their four competitors—the Jets, Dolphins, and Saints—have yet to win a single game. The only real test came against Baltimore in Week 1, and that was a one-point escape. The production appears to be elite, but the level of competition has been far below average. Upcoming matchups with Kansas City and Cincinnati will help determine whether the Bills’ early success translates against playoff-caliber teams.
Philadelphia Looks Less Polished
The Eagles’ offense hasn’t been as crisp. Through four games, they averaged just 138 passing yards per match, which ranks near the bottom of the league. Jalen Hurts has struggled to connect consistently with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Even the run game, usually a strength, has hovered around league average.
Despite those numbers, Philadelphia keeps winning because of timely defense and efficient scoring. Their defense has faced much tougher teams than Buffalo’s, including playoff teams like the Rams, Chargers, and Buccaneers. On average, they’ve given up about 22 points per game.
The Eagles also boast a +4 turnover margin, which proves that they’re limiting mistakes and capitalizing on opportunities. A blocked field goal returned for a touchdown in Week 3 proved decisive in their narrow win over the Rams. In Week 4, they withstood a late push from Tampa Bay to secure another victory. The team may not have won in dominant fashion, but its success has come against tougher competition.
Former Unbeatens Struggled When Pressured in Week Four
Several teams entered Week 4 without a loss, but that changed quickly. The San Francisco 49ers lost at home to Jacksonville after turning the ball over four times and allowing a special teams touchdown. Their defense gave up 26 points and couldn’t recover from the constant field position swings.
On the other hand, the Colts fell late to the Rams after surrendering an 88-yard touchdown with under two minutes left. Quarterback Daniel Jones threw two interceptions, which cost Indianapolis key drives.
The Chargers also dropped a close one to the Giants, who started rookie Jaxson Dart. They turned the ball over twice and couldn’t take advantage of a winnable matchup. Tampa Bay, previously 3-0, gave the Eagles a tough game but couldn’t finish strong. All four teams exposed areas that need tightening.
Sloppy execution and late-game mistakes were central to those first losses, and have fueled early doubts about consistency and roster depth as the season moves into its middle stretch.
