The Insane 70-Yard Kick That Has the Entire NFL Losing Its Mind
The Insane 70-Yard Kick That Has the Entire NFL Losing Its Mind
On August 9, 2025, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ rookie kicker, Cam Little, hit a 70-yard field goal that rewrote expectations for what’s possible on a football field. The attempt happened just before halftime in a meeting against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and it immediately became the longest made field goal in any organized game at any level. The ball sailed through in full matchup conditions, without contact on the crossbar, and with enough distance left to spare.
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen had called his final timeout with one second left, which gave Little the chance to take the long shot in a live game.
The NFL Record Still Belongs to Justin Tucker
Despite the distance and clean execution, the league won’t log Little’s shot as a record. This is because it came during the preseason, and the NFL only recognizes field goals made in regular-season meetings. Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens still holds the official mark with a 66-yard kick made in 2021.
Little’s kick traveled four yards farther. No player in a regular-season, college, or high school game has ever converted a 70-yard field goal without artificial help. The previous longest in a contest was 69 yards, set by Ove Johansson at the college level in 1976.
That one used a kicking block, which gave the ball added lift. But the Jaguars’ rookie made his attempt without one, which adds to the significance.
The Team Knew He Could Make It

Little had already shown in practice that he could make long-distance shots. His special teams coach, Heath Farwell, saw it firsthand. Holder Logan Cooke and long snapper Ross Matiscik had worked closely with him and supported the decision on the sideline. Once the ball left the ground, the snap and hold were solid, and the attempt came off Little’s foot cleanly.
As soon as the ball passed through the uprights, teammates ran over to celebrate. The scoreboard didn’t move by more than three points, but it changed how people viewed Jacksonville’s kicking game moving forward.
His Role Could Expand During the Season
Coach Coen acknowledged that Little’s range may affect how the team approaches certain situations. Field position around midfield could become more valuable now that a score is possible without crossing the 50-yard line. That might change decisions at the end of halves or in tight fourth-quarter spots.
Little made 27 of 29 field goal attempts as a rookie. He connected on five kicks beyond 50 yards, with a personal best of 59 before the preseason. The 70-yard record adds a new layer to what the Jaguars can plan for under pressure.
Little Didn’t See It, But He Felt It

After the game, Little said he couldn’t see the ball go through. His view was blocked by the linemen in front of him. He relied on the crowd and his teammates for confirmation. Once he realized it was good, he said the ball wasn’t going anywhere. “Canton can get another ball,” he joked.
However, he isn’t satisfied with just one try, either. His goal is to do it again; this time, when it counts for the books.
