12 NFL Teams That Have Never Won a Super Bowl
Winning a Super Bowl is the highest goal in the NFL, but not every team has reached that mountaintop. As of the end of the 2025 season, 12 franchises still haven’t won a title. Some came painfully close and lost in dramatic fashion. Others have never even made it to the game.
Here’s a closer look at the NFL’s winless dozen and where their championship hopes stand heading into the future.

The Bills lost four consecutive Super Bowls between the 1990 and 1993 seasons, the most in a row by any team in NFL history. They haven’t returned since. In 2025, they reached the AFC Championship but lost to the Bengals. They are tied with the Vikings for most appearances without a win.
The Minnesota Vikings Also Lost Four Super Bowls

The Vikings lost four Super Bowls between 1970 and 1977 and haven’t been back since. Even with playoff appearances scattered across recent decades, including a 2025 run that ended before the NFC title game, they’ve yet to turn strong regular seasons into anything more than postseason exits.

The Bengals lost Super Bowls following the 1981, 1988, and 2021 seasons. In each, they were within striking distance but couldn’t close. They beat the Bills in the 2025 AFC title game but lost to the 49ers in Super Bowl LIX, and extended their drought to three defeats and no wins.
Atlanta Falcons Lost Two Super Bowls

The Falcons’ two Super Bowl appearances ended in disappointment, with the 2016 loss to New England still hanging over the franchise. The infamous blown lead in overtime overshadowed their earlier loss in 1998. They haven’t been back to the big game since.

The Panthers reached the Super Bowl after the 2003 and 2015 seasons. They lost both, first to the Patriots and later to the Broncos. Despite making the playoffs multiple times in the early 2000s and mid-2010s, they have not returned to the championship game since then.
The Arizona Cardinals Have Had One Appearance Since 1920

Founded in 1920, the Cardinals are the oldest NFL franchise without a Super Bowl title. They reached the game after the 2008 season but lost to the Steelers. The team has experienced limited postseason success since then and remains one of the longest-suffering fan bases in the league.
Tennessee Titans Lost By One Yard

The Titans’ 1999 Super Bowl run ended in one of the most dramatic finishes in NFL history: a tackle at the one-yard line. They’ve made it to the AFC title game twice since then, but haven’t come as close to tying or winning a championship again.
The Los Angeles Chargers Lost Their Only Super Bowl Appearance

The Chargers reached the Super Bowl after the 1994 season but lost to the San Francisco 49ers. They’ve made multiple playoff appearances since, including a return in 2025, but have never advanced past the Divisional Round. They remain without a championship in over six decades of play.
The Detroit Lions Have Never Played In A Super Bowl

The Lions haven’t just missed out on a Super Bowl win. They’ve never played in one. Though they won championships before the Super Bowl era, Detroit’s modern history has been defined by rebuilds and missed chances. A 2025 playoff push didn’t change that.
The Cleveland Browns Have No Super Bowl Appearances

The Browns are another team with pre-Super Bowl success but no modern-day appearances in the title game. Since joining the league in 1950, they’ve made it to the AFC Championship just three times. The Super Bowl remains uncharted territory for Cleveland fans.
Jacksonville Jaguars Have Not Reached A Super Bowl

Founded in 1995, the Jaguars have reached the AFC Championship three times: in 1996, 1999, and 2017. They have not advanced to the Super Bowl in any of those appearances. Their most recent playoff runs have ended early in the postseason.
Houston Texans Are Still Waiting On Their First Appearance

The Texans joined the league in 2002 and are the youngest team in the NFL. They have never played in a Super Bowl or reached a conference championship game. In 2025, they made the playoffs but lost in the Divisional Round.
