John Cena Will Wrestle His Final Match at a Major Event in December
There aren’t many moments in wrestling that stop fans in their tracks, but this one might. John Cena, the face of an entire WWE generation, is stepping into the ring one last time. After more than two decades of championship victories, crowd-shaking entrances, and “You can’t see me” taunts, his career is reaching its final chapter. WWE has announced that Cena will headline Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
This is the final stop in a year-long goodbye tour that has taken Cena across some of the biggest stages in wrestling, including WrestleMania 41 and SummerSlam. WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque called Cena’s impact “immeasurable,” and even that might be underselling it.

Every good story deserves a fitting finale, and Cena’s will come against one of the most dominant forces in modern WWE—GUNTHER. Multiple reports have confirmed that the “Ring General,” known for his brutal precision and record-breaking Intercontinental Championship reign, has been chosen as Cena’s final opponent.
Behind the scenes, WWE is reportedly building a tournament storyline that will lead to the match’s announcement. The company plans to center the entire Saturday Night’s Main Event around Cena’s farewell.

Cena’s path to December has been carefully built. His retirement plans became public in July 2024, when he revealed that the following year would serve as his last run in WWE. Since then, he’s been checking off career milestones while sharing the spotlight with younger talent.
Before the big night in Washington, Cena is set to face AJ Styles at Crown Jewel. That bout will mark the start of his final stretch. GUNTHER, meanwhile, continues to build his legacy as one of the most intimidating competitors in wrestling today.
A Moment Years in the Making
For an athlete who has won 17 world titles, five U.S. Championships, and two Royal Rumbles, the stats alone could fill a hall of fame plaque. Washington, D.C., will play host to the end of an era. WWE is planning a full weekend celebration, complete with special fan events and exclusive merchandise at the official WWE Superstore. The match itself will stream live on Peacock.
