There are more than 400 Kobe Bryant murals around the world. Veteran marketer and social media consultant Mike Asner created kobemural.com to document the mural phenomenon. He built an interactive map and runs an Instagram page called kobemural to promote artists and document where the murals are.
“Like many Southern Californians, after the passing of Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant and seven other victims, I was devastated by the news,” Asner told VoyageLA after the helicopter crash that took their lives on Jan. 26, 2020. “Several days after the incident, I noticed murals going up throughout L.A. and photos of them on Instagram. I identified quickly that these should be organized for the families, fans and visitors with specific mural locations and promotion of all artists.”
Asner has located 325 murals in the United States, including 247 in Southern California. There are 112 additional international murals in more than 30 different countries, including China, Italy and Turkey. The total number of Kobe murals might be even higher.
“There are many more than that,” Asner told USA Today. “There are probably murals in every corner of the world that I don’t know about.”
