Best High School Girls Volleyball Player in Every State for 2022
The future of volleyball in the United States — like any other sport — is usually first discovered in the high school ranks.
Future All-Americans and Olympians must prove their skills on the prep level before ascending to stardom on the next level. The best players rack up state championships and all-state selections before moving on.
These are the best high school girls volleyball players in all 50 states from the classes of 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Alabama: Blakeley Robbins
High school: Bayside Academy (Daphne, Alabama)
Position: Setter
Graduation year: 2024
Height: 5-foot-10
College: Uncommitted
Bottom line: Blakeley Robbins racked up a staggering 1,658 assists and 366 digs as Bayside Academy went 57-6 and won a Class 5A state championship. It was quite a feat for the sophomore setter who averaged 10.6 assists per set.
Robbins was named a MaxPreps Underclassmen All-American in 2021 and is a top 50 player for the Class of 2024.

Alaska: Lauren Sulte
High school: Dimond High School (Anchorage, Alaska)
Position: Outside hitter

Bottom line: Lauren Sulte helped lead Dimond High to a Class 4A state runner-up finish in 2021, when she was named to the Class 4A all-tournament team.
Sulte racked up 324 kills for the Lynx on the way to their state runner-up finish, along with 20 blocks and 301 digs.
Arizona: Evan Hendrix
High school: Notre Dame Prep (Scottsdale, Arizona)

Bottom line: Evan Hendrix led Notre Dame Prep to a 37-5 record and the Class 4A state championship in 2021 on the way to being named MaxPreps Underclassmen All-American as a sophomore.
Hendrix also had a team-high 626 kills and 71 aces in 2021 to go with 40 blocks and 283 digs.
Arkansas: Kennedy Phelan
High school: Fayetteville High School (Fayetteville, Arkansas)
Position: Setter

Bottom line: Kennedy Phelan led Fayetteville High to a 32-4 record and a second consecutive Class 6A state championship in 2021 on the way to earning Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year honors and being named a MaxPreps All-American.
Phelan racked up 1,123 assists, 274 digs, 88 kills, 31 blocks and an incredible 112 service aces in 2021. She's already a three-time Class 6A all-state selection, and in 2021, she was also named Class 6A Tournament MVP and All-Arkansas prep Player of the Year.
Headed into her senior season, Phelan is only five assists shy of 3,000 for her career and is committed to Florida State to play beach and indoor volleyball.
California: Babi Gubbins
High school: Mater Dei High School (Santa Ana, California)

Bottom line: She's still a few years out, but Class of 2024 standout Babi Gubbins could be a difference maker in the future for Stanford, where she's committed to play.
Gubbins, who's 6-foot-3, was one of just three sophomores named as a MaxPreps All-American in 2021 after she racked up 322 kills, 279 digs and 58 blocks as Mater Dei finished with a 36-6 record.
Colorado: Izzy Starck
High school: Rampart High School (Colorado Springs, Colorado)
Position: Setter/outside hitter

College: Penn State
Bottom line: Rampart High's Izzy Starck was the only non-senior named Class 5A All-State in 2021, which she did as a sophomore. To that end, she was almost unstoppable with 329 kills in 2021 with a hit percentage of 38.6 percent
Starck also had 410 assists, 85 service aces, 50 blocks and 257 digs. Committed to play for Penn State, Starck is as rare of a college prospect as they come as a 6-foot-2 setter who can also play outside hitter — essentially the equivalent of a 6-foot-10 point guard in basketball.
Connecticut: Evelyn Brenton
High school: Glastonbury High School (Glastonbury, Connecticut)
Position: Outside hitter

Bottom line: Glastonbury's Evelyn Brenton was named Class LL all-state as a junior in 2021 after she led her team with 239 kills and 50 blocks on the way to a 17-7 record and an appearance in the Class LL state tournament.
Brenton and Glastonbury's finish was even more impressive considering the team started the season 3-4 before winning 13 of 14 matches. She's committed to play volleyball for the University of New Hampshire.
Delaware: Julia Yurkovich
High school: St. Mark's High School (Wilmington, Delaware)

Bottom line: Julia Yurkovich led St. Mark's to back-to-back, undefeated state championships in 2020 and 2021 after finishing as state runner-up as a freshman in 2019.
Yurkovich, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, is also a three-time DIAA all-state selection and made the AVCA Phenom List in 2020.
Florida: Jordyn Byrd
High school: Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School (Sarasota, Florida)
Position: Outside hitter

Bottom line: In volleyball-rich Florida, Cardinal Mooney's Jordyn Byrd has found a way to stand out. The 6-foot-5 outside hitter had 551 kills, 258 digs and 56 blocks as a junior in 2021 on the way to taking home Florida Gatorade Player of the Year and MaxPreps All-American honors.
Byrd, who is committed to play for Texas, has already topped 1,000 career kills and had a 46.3 hitting percentage as a junior in 2021 while Cardinal Mooney went 20-8 and made it to the Class 3A state tournament.
Georgia: Mary Neal
High school: Walton High School (Marietta, Ga.)
Position: Libero/defensive specialist/outside hitter
Graduation year: 2023
Height: 5-foot-11
College: Mississippi State
Bottom line: Mary Neal led Walton High to a 27-6 record and the Class 7A state championship in 2021 (no, we're not listing it like AAAAAAAA like Georgia wants) while recording 415 kills and 279 digs.
She's now only 23 kills from hitting 1,000 kills for her career. It was the second state championship for Walton with Neal on the squad, and she also had a state runner-up finish.
Neal was named the GSHA Class 7A Player of the Year and a MaxPreps All-American in 2021 and is committed to play for Mississippi State.
Hawaii: Senna Roberts-Navarro
High school: 'Iolani School (Honolulu, Hawaii)

Bottom line: 'Iolani School's Senna Roberts-Navarro had a breakout season for 'Iolani as a junior in 2021, earning all-state honors after she led her team with 241 kills to go with 131 digs.
Roberts-Navarro had 113 kills as a freshman in 2019 and 436 career kills. Her career numbers would be much higher, but she only was able to play 21 sets during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.
Idaho: Alex Bower
High school: Skyview High School (Nampa, Idaho)
Position: Setter

College: BYU
Bottom line: Skyview High's Alex Bower was one of the best in the nation at distributing the ball in 2021, racking up 1,078 assists, 200 digs and 135 kills as a sophomore and earning MaxPreps Underclassmen All-American honors.
Bower is part of one of the great volleyball legacies in Division I at BYU, where she's already committed to play. Her mother, Caroline, played volleyball for BYU, and all three of her older sisters, Morgan, Whitney and Eden, are all currently playing for BYU.
Whitney is the two-time reigning West Coast Conference Setter of the Year, but that's still not all of them. Alex's father, Danny, played basketball for BYU, and her grandfather, Wayne, played football for BYU.
Illinois: Ellie White
High school: Mother McAuley High School (Chicago, Illinois)
Position: Outside hitter

College: Michigan
Bottom line: Mother McAuley's Ellie White led her team to a 35-7 record and a Class 4A state runner-up finish as a sophomore in 2021. White was almost unstoppable at the net on offense and defense with 568 kills and 70 blocks to go with 303 digs and 51 aces.
White, who is committed to play for Michigan, was named MaxPreps Underclassmen All-American. She already has 668 career kills through just two seasons and has an outside shot at hitting 1,000 career kills as a junior.
Indiana: Chloe Chicoine
High school: McCutcheon High School (Lafayette, Indiana)

Bottom line: Purdue landed an elite national recruit out of its own backyard when it got Chloe Chicoine to flip from Penn State to the Boilermakers.
Chicoine has been one of the nation's best players for the last two seasons. The 5-foot-10 outside hitter led McCutcheon High to a 30-6 record and the Class 4A state championship in 2021. Chicoine racked up 440 kills, 196 digs and 20 aces while being named Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year, MaxPreps All-American and Journal & Courier Player of the Year.
She was also a member of the U18 USA National Team that won a bronze medal at the Pan Am Games.
Iowa: Lily Dykstra
High school: Urbandale High School (Urbandale, Iowa)
Position: Outside hitter

College: Northern Iowa
Bottom line: Lily Dykstra helped lead Urbandale to the state tournament as a junior in 2021 and was named Class 5A All-State. It was the first trip to state for the J-Hawks since 2017.
Dykstra is committed to play for Northern Iowa.
Kansas: Brooklyn Deleye
High school: Washburn Rural High School (Topeka, Kansas)

Bottom line: Washburn Rural star Brooklyn Deleye led her team to a 40-2 record and the Class 6A state semifinals. The Junior Blues' only two losses came at the state tournament.
Deleye was named Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year, MaxPreps All-American and Class 6A Player of the Year with 586 kills and 133 aces.
Deleye is committed to play volleyball for Kentucky but could also be a Power Five standout in another sport. She helped lead Washburn Rural to the Class 6A state title in basketball last season.
Kentucky: Sydney Helmers
High school: Assumption High School (Louisville, Kentucky)
Position: Outside hitter
Graduation year: 2023

College: Texas
Bottom line: Assumption High is one of a handful of schools with legit national title hopes, and Sydney Helmers is one of the reasons why. In 2021, the Texas commit had 421 kills but missed the state playoffs with a concussion.
Helmers, a 6-foot-3 MaxPreps All-American, has 811 career kills and should pass the 1,000 career kills mark early in her senior season.
Louisiana: O'Neil Haddad
High school: St. Mary's Dominican High School (New Orleans, Louisiana)
Position: Middle blocker
Graduation year: 2023

Bottom line: Dominican High's O'Neil Haddad led her team to the Division I state championship in 2021 and was one of three all-state picks off the team and the only junior selected as all-state.
Haddad racked up 329 kills in 2021 and should break 1,000 career kills as a senior. She has 790 career kills through her first three high school seasons. She also has 232 career blocks, with at least 65 blocks in each of her first three seasons.
Maine: Natalie Moynihan
High school: Scarborough High School (Scarborough, Maine)

Bottom line: One of just two members of the Class of 2025 to make this list, Natalie Moynihan led Scarborough High to a Class A state championship as a freshman in 2021, when she scored the winning point in the state finals against Biddeford. It was Scarborough's third state championship since 2015.
Moynihan is one of several talented underclassmen in Maine right now and was named Press Herald all-state with 110 kills, 160 digs and 63 aces — the only freshman to make the all-state team.
Maryland/District of Columbia: Gabby Allen
High school: Reservoir High School (Fulton, Maryland)
Position: Libero
Graduation year: 2023
Height: 5-foot-6
College: Howard
Bottom line: One of two players from the DC Metro Area to make the list, Reservoir High libero Gabby Allen was a Washington Post All-Metro Team selection as a junior in 2021 leading her team to its first state championship since 2007.
Allen, who is committed to Howard, is a defensive ace. She had 175 digs last season.
Massachusetts: Samantha Tam
High school: Needham High School
Position: Outside hitter
Graduation year: 2024

Bottom line: Samantha Tam helped lead Needham High to a second consecutive Division I state championship with 265 kills and 65 aces on the way to earning Division I all-state and Bay State all-star recognition for her performance.
Tam had 20 kills and 11 digs in the state finals against Wellesley. Tam was also the only sophomore named to the Massachusetts All-Scholastic Team.
Michigan: Harper Murray
High school: Skyline High School (Ann Arbor, Michigan)
Position: Outside hitter

Bottom line: Skyline High's Harper Murray helped lead the Team USA U18 National Team to a bronze medal at the Pan Am Games, then returned home to lead Skyline High to a state runner-up finish.
Murray, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter, racked up 652 kills, 312 digs and 82 service aces as Skyline went 55-4-2 and she was named a MaxPreps All-American. She's also committed to play for five-time national champion Nebraska.
Minnesota: Stella Swenson
High school: Wayzata High School (Plymouth, Minnesota)

Bottom line: Wayzata High setter Stella Swenson became the second member of her family to be named Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year in 2021, following her older sister, Samantha, who won the award in 2014.
Swenson, at 6-foot-1, was almost unstoppable as a sophomore with 936 assists, 145 digs, 93 kills, 58 service aces and 57 blocks as Wayzata went 34-0 and won the Class 4A state championship.
Swenson, who is committed to play for Minnesota, is already a two-time all-state pick as well.
Mississippi: Lakin Laurendine
High school: Jackson Academy (Jackson, Mississippi)

College: Auburn
Bottom line: Auburn commit Lakin Laurendine switched schools from Clinton High to Jackson Academy as a junior and led Jackson to a second consecutive MAIS Division I state title and became the school's third consecutive Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year winner.
Laurendine, who is 6-foot-2, had 509 kills, 378 digs and, 46 blocks and an incredible 111 service aces for Jackson in 2021. She also won a Class 6A state championship at Clinton in 2019.
Missouri: Ella Swindle
High school: Rock Bridge High School (Columbia, Missouri)
Position: Setter

College: Texas
Bottom line: Ella Swindle led Rock Bridge High to a 34-6 record and the Class 5 semifinals, racking up 690 assists, 173 digs, 57 blocks and 36 service aces. She also chipped in with 141 kills on the way to being named Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year.
Swindle, a 6-foot-2 setter, is committed to play for Texas and is already a three-time Class 5 all-state selection who has 2,213 career assists.
Montana: Lexi Thornton
High school: Charles M. Russell High School (Great Falls, Montana)
Position: Middle blocker

Bottom line: Lexi Thornton helped lead Great Falls CMR to the Class AA state championship in 2021. It was the first volleyball state title for CMR since 2000 after finishing third in 2019 and as state runner-up in 2020.
Thornton was one of four Class AA all-state picks for CMR and one of two juniors who made all-state alongside Avery Stuff.
Nebraska: Stella Adeyemi
High school: Papillion-La Vista South High School (Papillion, Nebraska)

Bottom line: Hawaii commit Stella Adeyemi was a star on one of the nation's top teams.
She had 341 kills and 108 digs for Papio South High, which finished No. 5 in the final MaxPreps Top 25 rankings as Papio South went 39-0 and won the Class A state championship, becoming the first Class A team to go undefeated since 2011.
Adeyemi was also named MaxPreps Underclassmen All-American.
Nevada: Leilia Toailoa
High school: Bishop Gorman High School (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Bottom line: Leilia Toailoa didn't even get to play volleyball as a freshman in the fall of 2020 — no one in Nevada did — but she had a breakout season as a sophomore in 2021, leading the state with 491 kills as Bishop Gorman won the Class 5A state championship.
Toailoa, at 6-foot-1, also had 192 digs and 71 blocks on the way to being named MaxPreps Underclassmen All-American, Class 5A All-State and All-Southern Nevada.
New Hampshire: Tory Vitko
High school: Dover High School (Dover, New Hampshire)

Bottom line: Dover High's Tory Vitko already has 807 career assists with two seasons of high school volleyball still left to play and was a Division I all-state selection as a sophomore in 2021.
Vitko is also a three-sport athlete. She's a shooting guard in basketball and Dover's No. 2 singles player in tennis.
New Jersey: Joanna Andrews
High school: Williamstown High School (Williamstown, New Jersey)

Bottom line: Williamstown setter Joanna Andrews grabbed ahold of the opportunity to be a full-time starter for the first time as a junior, leading her team to a 37-0 record and the Group 4 state championship on the way to being named New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year, Star Ledger Volleyball Player of the Year and South Jersey Sports Weekly Girls Volleyball Player of the Year.
The second-shortest player to make the list at 5-foot-4, Andrews racked up 784 assists, 113 digs and 32 service aces. She had 25 assists and five digs in a sweep of Ridgewood High in the state championship match.
She now has over 900 career assists headed into her senior season.
New Mexico: Tess Fuqua
High school: Centennial High School (Las Cruces, New Mexico)
Position: Outside hitter

College: Arizona
Bottom line: Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year Tess Fuqua led Centennial High to a 23-3 record and the Class 5A state semifinals in 2021 with 586 kills, 144 digs, 39 blocks and 49 service aces — all to go with a robust .546 kill percentage.
Fuqua, a 6-foot outside hitter, is committed to play for the University of Arizona and is also a two-time Class 5A all-state selection.
New York: Kasia Barletta
High school: Shenendehowa High School (Clifton Park, New York)

Bottom line: Shenendehowa High's Kasia Barletta wasn't just the only sophomore to make the NYVCA Class AA all-state team in 2021. She was the only non-senior named to the squad.
Barletta's breakout season included 724 digs and 46 servie aces as she was also named to the Times-Union All-Star Team and the All-Suburban Council.
North Carolina: Cameron Lloyd
High school: Cedar Ridge High School (Hillsborough, North Carolina)
Position: Outside hitter/defensive specialist

Bottom line: There was little Cameron Lloyd didn't accomplish for Cedar Ridge High as a junior in 2021, leading her team to a 31-2 record and the first state championship in school history.
Lloyd was also named the NCVBCA Class 3A Player of the Year and NCHSAA Class 3A Player of the Year as well as AVCA All-Region 3.
Committed to play for Bucknell, Lloyd has 817 career kills headed into her senior season.
North Dakota: Logan Nissley
High school: Bismarck Century High School (Bismarck, North Dakota)

Bottom line: Logan Nissley led Bismarck Century to its second consecutive Class A state championship in 2021 as the Patriots went 25-1 and she posted 357 kills, 361 digs and 34 blocks.
Nissley is a two-time Class A all-state selection and was named North Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year in 2021. Nissley has a shot at ending her high school career with five North Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year awards — she's already won twice in basketball.
Nissley is committed to play basketball for Nebraska.
Ohio: Caroline Jurevicius
High school: Notre Dame Cathedral Latin High School (Chardon, Ohio)

Bottom line: Notre Dame Cathedral Latin volleyball star Carolina Jurevicius is one of three daughters of former NFL players to make the list after she led her team to a state runner-up finish in 2021.
Geauga County Maple Leaf's Jason Baxter recently wrote an excellent profile of Jurevicius following her time with the USA U18 Team as it won a bronze medal at the FIVB U18 World Championships in 2021.
Oklahoma: Jessica Shildt
High school: Bishop Kelley High School (Tulsa, Oklahoma)

Bottom line: Standing just 5-foot-2, Bishop Kelley's Jessica Shildt is the shortest player to make this list. The defensive whiz has racked up over 400 digs each of the last two seasons, including 471 digs as a junior in 2021, as she was named one of the finalists for Tulsa World Volleyball Player of the Year.
Oregon: Alexis Haury
High school: Silverton High School (Silverton, Oregon)
Position: Setter/outside hitter
Graduation year: 2024

College: Washington
Bottom line: Rated as the No. 1 setter in the Class of 2024, Silverton High star Alexis Haury led her team to the Class 5A state quarterfinals with 398 assists, 224 digs and 201 kills as a sophomore in 2021.
Haury, at 5-foot-10, was named Class 5A all-state and Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year in 2021. She is committed to play volleyball for Washington.
Pennsylvania: Mia Tuman
High school: North Allegheny High School (Wexford, Pennsylvania)
Position: Setter/outside hitter

College: Ohio State
Bottom line: North Allegheny's Mia Tuman can do a little bit of everything on the volleyball court. The 6-foot setter/outside hitter had 356 assists, 223 kills, 217 digs, 54 blocks and 30 service aces as she led her team to its fifth consecutive Class 5A state championship in 2021.
Tuman was named Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Player of the Year and Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year following her junior season and is already a two-time all-state pick.
Tuman's father, Jerame Tuman, was a three-time All-Big Ten tight end and won a national championship at the University of Michigan before playing 10 seasons in the NFL and winning a Super Bowl with the PIttsburgh Steelers.
Mia is committed to Ohio State.
Rhode Island: Ava Grace Dresback
High school: Prout School (Wakefield, Rhode Island)

Bottom line: Prout's Ava Grace Dresback was the only non-senior named to The Providence Journal all-state team as a sophomore.
Dresback is already a two-time all-state selection and, while listed as an outside hitter, can also make plays on the back row for Prout, which finished as state runner-up in 2021.
South Carolina: Sierra Dudley
High school: Dorman High School (Roebuck, South Carolina)

Bottom line: Sierra Dudley was magnificent in helping lead Dorman High to a Class 5A state championship as a junior in 2021 with 816 assists, 200 digs, 44 service aces and 100 kills.
Dudley was named Class 5A all-state by the South Carolina Volleyball Coaches Association.
South Dakota: Bergen Reilly
High school: Bishop O'Gorman High School (Sioux Falls, South Dakota)

Bottom line: Bergen Reilly seems like a once-in-a-lifetime player — not just for Bishop O'Gorman but for the state of South Dakota.
Reilly, at 6-foot-1, led O'Gorman to its second consecutive Class AA state championship as a junior in 2021 and was named South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year fo the second consecutive year as well.
Reilly, who is committed to play for Nebraska, helped lead Team USA to a bronze medal at the U18 World Championships in 2021.
Tennessee: Devyn Dunn
High school: Knoxville Catholic High School (Knoxville, Tennessee)

Bottom line: Knoxville Catholic setter Devyn Dunn made history as a junior in 2021, leading her school to a Division II-AA state championship and becoming the first player from her school to be named Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year.
Dunn led Knoxville Catholic with 737 assists, 253 digs and 61 service aces and was also named 5Star Preps Player of the Year as well as Division II-AA state tournament MVP.
Texas: Macaria Spears

Good luck trying to get balls past Kemavor on the regular. She had an incredible 98 blocks to go with 268 kills in 2021 and has 176 career kills despite only playing 20 sets in 2020.
Washington: Hailey Brockway

Bottom line: Graham-Kapowsin's Hailey Brockway led her school to the Class 4A semifinals with 582 kills, 251 digs and 67 service aces. Brockway, at 6-foot, was named The Tacoma News Tribune player of the year for the second time in three seasons and was also named a MaxPreps Underclassmen All-American.
Through three high school seasons, Brockway has a staggering 1,344 career kills — an amazing number considering she only played in 49 sets as a sophomore because of the pandemic.
West Virginia: Hannah Howard

Bottom line: Hannah Howard put it all together as a junior in 2021, leading Musselman High to a a 46-4-2 record and the school's second consecutive Class 3A state championship behind her 478 kills, 427 digs, 79 service aces and 27 blocks.
Howard is a dominant player at just 5-foot-7 and already a three-time All-State selection. She earned her biggest honor following her junior year when she became the fourth West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year in Musselman history.

Bottom line: Maddy Stucky has spent the last two years dishing out assists to older sister Alexis Stucky and winning back-to-back state championships for Laramie High with their mom, Jill Stucky, as their head coach.
With Alexis now gone to play for the University of Florida, it's on Maddy Stucky and her teammates to keep the fire burning. Maddy is already a two-time all-state pick headed into her junior season and has 1,346 career assists. She has a shot at breaking 2,000 career assists this season.
